Mondes Multiples, by Don Foresta
Monograph
Editor-in-chief: Prof. Don Foresta, language: French
This book traces the quest for a broader world view, developed when, as an American diplomat during the Vietnam War, I tried to find explanations for the tumult of our century. As a video art teacher at the very beginning of this art form, I had to develop a logic and a philosophical basis for the works produced in this field: I wanted to present to my students a semblance of order and continuity in what concerned creativity at the end of the 20th century.
Creators, at the same time, increasingly appropriated - often in a random manner - the instruments born from new technologies.
We are living in a period of radical change that has its sources in the past but is bursting out in unforeseen directions.
We are living in a period of radical change that has its sources in the past but is bursting out in unforeseen directions.
As in other historical periods of transformation, many of the eternal philosophical questions about existence are being asked again:
- the composition of matter and the universe;
- definition of truth;
- objectivity and subjectivity;
- continuity and discontinuity;
- man and society;
- the role of art and that of science.
Neither our century nor the next will elucidate these questions but will offer a number of solutions. History will judge their interest and of their relevance
